What We Do

Stepping Out provides specialist, trauma-informed support for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). Through therapeutic programs, social connection, specialist counselling and workforce training, we help survivors navigate the impacts of trauma while strengthening community understanding and responses.

All survivor programs are free and available both in-person and online.

Survivor Support & Trauma Recovery

Stepping Out helps women surviving childhood sexual abuse reconnect, recover, and rebuild through safe, trauma-informed care. Our programs focus on connection, somatic regulation, psychoeducation, and peer support to meet every woman where she is in her healing journey.

We also provide specialist guidance to help survivors understand and access NSW Victims Services counselling, alongside specialist counselling support for those who need it.

Specialist Frontline Worker Training

We strengthen workforce capability across the health, community and disability sectors through specialist training and best-practice guidance on childhood sexual abuse and complex trauma.

By building understanding of the impacts of trauma, gendered violence and abuse, we equip frontline workers with the skills and confidence to respond safely, respectfully and effectively to survivors.

Our Values in Action

Our approach is grounded in trauma-informed practice, survivor voice and choice, social justice, community connection, and feminist principles. We listen to lived experience, value collaboration and work alongside survivors to create safer, more compassionate responses to childhood sexual abuse.

Trauma-informed Practice

Every interaction is grounded in safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.

Social justice & Accessibility

We remove financial and structural barriers so that support is never a privilege, but a right.

Lived Experience Consultation

We actively consult with victim-survivors to ensure our programs genuinely reflect and serve their needs.

Professionalism & Clinical Integrity

We deliver high-quality, evidence-informed care through qualified trauma clinicians.

Inclusion, Diversity & Collaboration

We partner across sectors and communities to build a unified, robust network of care that leaves no woman isolated.

Who We Are

Stepping Out is run by a small team of experienced community support workers with specialist knowledge supporting women, young people, and people experiencing homelessness as well as survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
